Where am I?

by Liz on August 5, 2012

Oh, hey! I just wanted to pop my head in for a minute and say that I’m not gone forever. For any of you who may read this blog, I haven’t forgotten about it. It has been a busy summer in some regards, and not in others. Since my last post, I’ve been struggling with where to take this blog. I am still not entirely sure, but I don’t want to abandon it. I have a few ideas on what I’d like to do. Only just now do I feel like I have the energy to refocus my efforts a bit, so I hope that very soon there will be some new content. One thing I know for sure is that I don’t want to continue the way I have, in typical food blog fashion, with ton of process shots and awkward dialogue about the recipe I have made.

I am no chef. I cook from recipes. I pick ones that I think I and my husband will both enjoy. There is a lot that I would like to cook and don’t because of time, money, the tastes of those living in this household (I’m honestly the pickiest eater I know), etc. In standard food blog world, I feel like the person has to adapt the recipe in order to publish it for fear of copyright infringement or just out of respect to the recipe creator. I am so grateful for the people that can think up recipes, but I am not one of them. What I can do well, however, is do those recipes justice. What I continue to want to do with this blog is share the successes of my kitchen. What I do not want to do is adapt things that do not need to be adapted, or pretend like I am any kind of creative mind in the kitchen. I love cookbooks and cooking magazines and Pinterest, so if you have any recipe suggestions of things you think I’d like, please email me and let me know.

I really do look forward to the next evolution of this blog. I doubt the look of it will change much in that I have no idea how to design a website or the time to learn or the money to pay someone to do it for me. I hope any of you who keep up with it will allow me to change it a little because what I continue to love is sharing the food I enjoy with people, whether that’s in my kitchen, or at a restaurant, or via this humble corner of the internet.

Good to hear from you, and I’m very excited to see where you take things from here! Honestly, I’m the same way: I feel pressured to adapt or alter recipes for fear of being labeled a copy-cat…but really I only change things for personal taste (less sugar, dark chocolate for milk, almonds instead of peanuts, whatever). I’m still very much a novice in the kitchen so making many recipes exactly as written is helpful for me. And you definitely shouldn’t worry, with everything you’ve shown here you more than do those recipes justice: you make them shine! :)
